The Essential Disaster Kit

Nicolle Bellmore Pierse - Thursday, August 10, 2017

What would you and your family do in the event of a disastrous situation where you were unable to leave your house? As much as we don’t want to think about disasters, the possibility is always there. Prolonged power outages, blizzards, and other natural/technological disasters can leave you stranded in your own home—and as low as the likelihood may be, being prepared is important.

Ensuring safety and comfort in the case of a disastrous event can be as simple as creating a Disaster Kit for you and your family.

  • Large supply of non-perishable food
  • First aid kit
  • A small amount of cash
  • Copies of important documents such as insurance policies, medication lists, and forms of identification, kept in a waterproof, portable container)
  • At least one sleeping bag/warm blanket for each family member
