Summer Reading Programs

Most public libraries have summer reading programs.  Summer reading programs encourage children to read throughout the summer.  Studies have shown that completing a summer reading program helps children do better when they return to school in the fall.

At the Elyria Public Library System, our summer reading program runs from June 1st until July 31st and consists of a reading log (online or a paper form) where parents and children track their reading in 15 minute increments.  When the children have read (or had someone read to them) for 8 hours, they will be entered for a grand prize drawing where they could win legos, a tablet, or plush aliens.

Parents can sign their children up for summer reading at any branch of the Elyria Public Library System or online at

You can also download the Beanstack app to your phone to track your children’s reading.

The library also has many fun and free programs this summer.  For more information, check out our website at

We hope to see you there!
