Cold Weather Fun

As the leaves change and the weather gets colder, you can still enjoy the outdoors with your family. Toddlers need 90 minutes of play time each day and preschoolers need 120 minutes of play time each day. Children are more active outdoors than indoors.

Visit one of the Lorain County Metro Parks to get in some cold weather playtime:

  • Cascade Park is only a 30-minute walk or 10-minute bike from Downtown Elyria. Enjoy scenic views of the winding Black River or play on the new playground.
  • Black River Reservation is only a 30-minute walk or 10-minute bike from the Midway Mall Area. Here you can enjoy the tress and look for wildlife, birds, deer, and small mammals.

Remember it is important to prepare your kids to go outside. They should wear a coat, gloves, hat, boots, and warm socks. Beware of the signs of frostbite, such as a white or grayish-yellow skin area, skin that feels unusually firm or waxy, and numbness. If your child is complaining about being too cold, take a break and go inside.
